The government has shut down Capitol Hill Police Station to pave way for a new joint facility for St. John Ambulance and the Kenya Scouts Association, as part of an expansion plan by the Parliamentary Service Commission.
Insiders say Parliament wants to consolidate and expand its control of buildings around Parliament Buildings, including the St John Ambulance HQ Nairobi Office located opposite Bunge Tower.
The two organizations will relocate to a two-acre parcel in Upper Hill valued at about Sh1 billion, where they plan to build a shared operations center.
The closure of the police station is immediate, with more than 50 officers redeployed to Kilimani Police Station, Kibra Police Station, and Central Police Station.
Case files, exhibits, and impounded vehicles are being moved, while the public has been urged to collect any pending cash bail before it is transferred to the National Treasury.
