Tensions within the Democracy for the Citizens Party in Kirinyaga are now spilling into the open.
David Mathenge has come out strongly against Cleophas Malala, accusing him of attempting to dictate the political direction of Kirinyaga from outside the county.
Mathenge, who has declared interest in the Kirinyaga Senate seat in 2027, says leadership in the county will be determined by the people and not by individuals trying to impose themselves on the regionβs politics.
In his statement, he also reminded party members that some leaders stood firmly with Rigathi Gachagua during his most difficult political moments, when many others kept their distance.
According to him, those sacrifices should not now be ignored or sidelined.
The MCA also defended the party as a movement built through loyalty and commitment from its grassroots supporters, warning against attempts to destabilize what many in the region call the βMlima party.β
With Njeri Maina also raising concerns in recent days, the unfolding exchanges suggest deeper internal tensions within the party as leaders position themselves ahead of the next election cycle.
Kirinyaga politics is clearly entering a new and unpredictable phase.
