Is ODM Party Splitting

Today we have witnessed the official unveiling of two factions: ODM led by Oburu Odinga, and ODM Asili led by Winnie Odinga. The critical question is this: is this split driven by ideology, money, or a family fallout and clashing egos playing out in public?

The differences may be deeper than they appear. What seems like an Odinga family dispute is now spilling into ODM and the public arena. ODM could still reunite in the next election cycle in support of President Ruto, but it could just as easily fragment further, as current signs suggest.
My view is that ODM must urgently resolve its internal issues. Failure to do so risks triggering the largest wave of defections to other parties before 2027.

Beyond party politics, what is truly at stake is the best interest of the Luo community.
In my opinion, we should consider supporting President Ruto’s re-election bid—but only after structured and principled talks—to safeguard and accelerate the rapid development projects currently taking place across our counties, as we strategically regroup for 2032.

At the same time, Winnie Odinga should respect her uncle and seek to resolve family matters internally, rather than sheltering them behind politics and the ODM banner. Wisdom must prevail. The youth within ODM also need guidance, direction, and mentorship from elders to navigate this delicate moment with unity and purpose.
