Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched ballistic missiles toward two U.S. Navy warships, including a U.S. aircraft carrier and a guided-missile destroyer, in regional waters.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said both warships successfully evaded the attacks and no American personnel were injured.

The United States then launched strikes against three Iranian crude oil tankers, which CENTCOM said were linked to a network financing the IRGC and its regional allies.

The M/T Kylo was struck and sunk in the Gulf of Oman after its crew evacuated. The M/T Downy was permanently disabled near Iran’s strategic Kharg Island, while a third tanker, the M/T Stark 1, was also permanently disabled near Jask.

The exchange marks a major escalation in direct U.S.-Iran military confrontation around the Strait of Hormuz.
