The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) has issued a new seven-day strike notice to the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA), raising fears of major disruption to air travel. In a statement on February 9, 2026, the union cited stalled collective bargaining agreement talks, delayed remittance of union dues, and discrimination against contract workers.
KAWU accused KCAA of refusing to negotiate and failing to implement agreements dating back to 2015, despite repeated talks and conciliation efforts. The union warned that unless the issues are resolved, workers will down tools on February 16, potentially paralysing airport operations, air traffic control, and technical services nationwide.
KAWU Secretary General Moses Ndiema said dialogue had failed, noting some workers have gone over 11 years without a pay review.
