Uganda’s military chief Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has sent shockwaves across the country after declaring that security forces have arrested 2,000 opposition supporters and killed 30 others in the aftermath of last week’s elections that handed victory to President Yoweri Museveni in 2026 general elections
Speaking on Friday, Muhoozi said authorities are still hunting for more opposition activists as post-election security operations intensify nationwide.
Among the high-profile figures detained is outspoken Member of Parliament Muhammad Muwanga Kivumbi, whose arrest has sparked outrage within opposition circles and raised fresh concerns over political repression following the disputed polls.
