National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has made it clear that once his tenure as Speaker comes to an end, he has no intention of seeking elective positions such as Senator or Governor.
According to Wetang’ula, pursuing those offices would amount to moving backwards in his political journey, a step he believes would not align with the trajectory of his long and distinguished career in national leadership. He emphasized that having served at the helm of Parliament, his political ambitions can no longer be confined to regional or county-level roles.
The Speaker noted that the only seat befitting his experience, stature, and years of service would be the highest office in the land, the Presidency. Anything short of that, he implied, would fail to reflect the level at which he now operates in Kenya’s political landscape.
His remarks have sparked conversation across political circles, with many interpreting them as a bold declaration of confidence and a signal of where his future ambitions may lie. Whether this statement marks the beginning of a larger national conversation remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Wetang’ula sees his political path as forward-facing, not retrogressive.
