President Yoweri Museveni Takes Huge Step On Dr. Kizza Besigye

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential flag bearer, has called upon the Ugandan judiciary to urgently expedite the release of opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye, citing prolonged legal delays as a matter of national concern.

In his remarks, President Museveni acknowledged that the slow pace of judicial proceedings continues to undermine public confidence in the justice system. He emphasized that cases of significant political and public interest, such as that of Dr. Besigye, should be handled with greater urgency, transparency, and efficiency.

The President further pledged that, should he secure re-election in the forthcoming polls, his administration would embark on comprehensive judicial reforms aimed at overhauling the court system. According to Museveni, these reforms would be designed to reduce case backlog, eliminate unnecessary procedural bottlenecks, and ensure the timely dispensation of justice for all citizens, regardless of political affiliation.

Museveni noted that a restructured judiciary would not only strengthen the rule of law but also reinforce democratic principles by ensuring that legal matters are resolved swiftly and fairly. He underscored that justice delayed is justice denied, and reiterated his commitment to modernizing Uganda’s legal institutions to prevent prolonged detentions and drawn-out court cases in the future.
