Here Is The Sad Story Of The Former Harambee Stars Goalkeeper Who Went Broke

Former Harambee Stars goalkeeper Mathews Ottamax writes an emotional story as he thanks Radio Presenter Toldo for helping him when he was really broke and ultimately helping him to secure a job:

“A FEW GOOD MEN:

  1. TOLDO QURYA,

It is always good to look back and say ‘Thank You’ to people who gave you a helping hand when you were down!

Millennials like me who watched this masterpiece in the 90s written by Aaron Sorkin starring Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, and Demi Moore in the star-studded court-martial drama “A Few Good Men”, will agree with me that just like they don’t make such good movies, we rarely come across as many Good men and women in the world today.

My story today does not go beyond the title of this epic movie, as I would love to liken the title, not the court drama, to some precious souls whose actions befit the title.

Upon getting wind of my predicaments early this year, Toldo Qurya of Radio Africa Limited took his valuable time within his busy schedule to model a sense of new life in me when I thought hopelessness would be my groping stick in my dark journey.

This came after I publicly posted my situation on social media. I knew that public slander would follow me wherever I went…But I didn’t care, knowing not everyone in this world is evil!

I was publicly scolded, scythed, mocked and gossiped about by people I considered my close friends. I was left all by myself, even the social support groups that I was a member of, shunned me…I was stranded in the universe!

Edgar Obare of BNN was running with it at the pleasure of his merciless battalion who chose to drag the already trodden me on the murky social media platforms with the thin shreds of my loose hanging garments…it could only abrade my clothes but not the thick skin that I had formed!

Then, Toldo Qurya of Radio Jambo would call me to one of his shows for an interview on what was happening with my life.

After the show, the empathetic Toldo asked me out for lunch at a city hotel, It is here that we discussed at length my situation which he said at first he thought was my kawaida booby games on social media.

He accompanied this rare sumptuous meal with twenty thousand Kenya Shillings with these words, “usilale njaa na sisi tuko!” “This should keep you going for a little while as we look for a lasting solution.”
Toldo’s extension of the olive branch did not end with that token; he kept checking up on me more often, coming through in helping me with my bills.

Then, one day, just lying supine legs wide open like Leonardo Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man, blankly staring at the ceiling, trying to unlock life’s cryptic codes, I got a call from the radio boss, Steve Agembo of Radio Africa, asking me to present myself for a job interview the next day. Immediately I saw Toldo Qurya’s assisted pass in this Godly opportunity to score.

Today, I gratefully have a job…

And I want to dedicate this appreciation post to Toldo Qurya and RAL for giving me a lifeline when all seemed lost. I also thank the Almighty God for the precious gift of life, patience and hope in seeing a second chance.
