Update: Govt Spokesperson Announces The Following On Doctors Strike

UPDATE: Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has faulted medical doctors over their ongoing countrywide strike terming their demands as unreasonable.

Mwaura says the demands by the medical practitioners are ill-intended, claiming that they’re merely meant to sabotage the Universal Health Care pilot project and the Social Health Act.

He states that the current terms of the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) where doctors want medical interns to be paid a monthly stipend of Ksh.200,000 is unrealistic, citing the heavy wage bill and the country’s debt.

The Government Spokesperson refer to the doctors as selfish in their demands, as he compares them to other professionals in the country whose interns he claims earn between Ksh.15,000 and 25,000

He therefore maintains that the country can not afford to agree to the medics’ terms and therefore they should return to work as a show of ethics in their profession.
