Charles Nyachae, a seasoned legal expert and a close ally to the President, is among the candidates eyeing the IEBC chairperson position following the conclusion of Wafula Chebukati’s term.
Nyachae holds formal qualifications in law and is currently pursuing a PhD in Leadership and Governance, reflecting his continued interest in governance and public administration.
He previously served as a Judge at the East African Court of Justice but resigned in January 2024, citing dysfunction within the institution. During his tenure, he was earning approximately Kshs 290,000 monthly, a position he felt lacked meaningful productivity.
Responding to concerns about his interest in the IEBC role, Nyachae stated, “Many people have asked me if I am sure I want this IEBC job, and I said yes. A close friend told me I should be prepared to either lose my integrity or my life, but I told him no, I do not intend to lose my life while serving the people of Kenya.”
As a candidate for the IEBC chairperson position, Nyachae’s qualifications, experience, and close ties to the President have drawn significant public attention as the selection process unfolds.
