HOW TO USE PRAYER TO BETTER YOUR MARRIAGE

  1. HAVE YOUR SPOUSE AS YOUR ULTIMATE PRAYER PARTNER
You can have other people to pray with you here and there but let your spouse be your main prayer partner. This will make your spouse feel special
  2. DON’T FULLY RELY ON YOUR PASTOR’S PRAYERS
Grow spiritually so that you don’t have to depend on spiritual leaders all the time. This is your family
  3. AGREE TOGETHER THAT PRAYER WILL NOT BE COMPROMISED EVEN WHEN MAD AT EACH OTHER
This will keep you both accountable that, yes, you two may not be in good terms but you will not put praying aside, just like you don’t put paying bills aside just because there is an issue. This will also soften both your hearts during conflict
  4. ASK EACH OTHER “WHAT IS YOUR PRAYER REQUEST?”
This shows care and encourages your spouse to share his/her needs
  5. DON’T JUST PRAY DURING DIFFICULT TIME, PRAY ALSO IN GOOD TIMES
Don’t run to God only when there is trouble, run to God as a couple also when things are going well. Make prayer a lifestyle
  6. ASK GOD “TEACH ME TO LOVE MY SPOUSE BETTER”
This will make you humble, more understanding and the Holy Spirit will move in your marriage. God knows your spouse more than you
  7. DON’T USE PRAYER TO REPORT OR DEMEAN YOUR SPOUSE
Don’t pray things such as “God rebuke my husband for he is letting the enemy win in our marriage”, “God teach my feminist wife how to speak to me”. This only makes your spouse feel attacked. Stop using prayers to make you appear better than your spouse
  8. BE A COUPLE THAT GIVES THANKS
Develop a habit of thanking God together. This will reduce complaints in your marriage, improve the mood in the home and make you better stewards of your blessings. What you are thankful for you will handle with care
  9. EACH WEEK, AGREE ON A PRAYER ITEM
Make specific prayers. What matters are you presenting to God in agreement?
  10. EMBRACE WORSHIP THROUGH MUSIC
Playing worship music or singing worship music together at home or in the car will set the mood for prayer, making prayer less of a struggle
  11. BUILD A FELLOWSHIP WITH PEOPLE THAT LOVE PRAYER
Surround your marriage with people that challenge you and inspire you to stay prayed up
  12. DO NOT JUDGE EACH OTHER’S PRAYER STYLES
Remember, prayer is personal. We all pray to God in an intimate way. This doesn’t mean you don’t let your spouse hear you pray, how else will your spouse be in agreement with you? Be heard praying in your way. Criticizing your spouse’s way of praying will discourage joint prayers
  13. PRAY OVER THE PHONE WHEN YOU ARE FAR FROM EACH OTHER
Being physically away from each other is not an excuse for you two not to pray together, you can prayer via audio call, video call or voice notes. Where two are gathered in His name, the Lord is there
