U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized allied nations after several refused Washington’s request to deploy naval forces to help secure the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking on the issue, Trump expressed frustration with partners who declined to participate in the proposed maritime operation.
Trump pointed out that the United States maintains large military deployments abroad, including around 45,000 troops in Japan, 45,000 in South Korea, and roughly 45,000 to 50,000 in Germany, emphasizing that Washington helps protect these countries. He questioned why some allies were reluctant to contribute even limited naval assets such as minesweepers when asked to assist in securing the strategic shipping route.
In his remarks, Trump suggested the response from some partners had been disappointing, reiterating a long-standing complaint that the United States often carries the burden of global security commitments while allies hesitate to take part in certain operations.
