
My name is Jane, and I come from Wakiso, Uganda. When I look back at where I started, I can hardly believe the life I am living today. For many years, I worked as a house girl, moving from one home to another, serving people, washing clothes, cooking food, and cleaning houses just to survive. Life was not easy at all. I was underpaid, overworked, and in most cases, treated like I was nothing. I always dreamed of living a better life, but every time I looked at my situation, I felt hopeless.
As a house girl, I saw how other people lived. I used to watch my bosses driving big cars, eating good food, and living in nice homes while I struggled with the little money I earned. I often asked myself if I would ever get the chance to enjoy life the way they did. I tried to save the small money I was given, but it was never enough.
