“Honey, come closer… I have something very important to tell you.”

A dramatic scene unfolded in a hospital when a woman in labour suddenly called her husband closer and, with the seriousness of a government emergency meeting, whispered:

“Honey, come closer… I have something very important to tell you.”

The husband, being the obedient and supportive gentleman he was, immediately leaned closer. He probably thought she was about to confess her undying love, reveal the baby’s name, or perhaps give him one final instruction before the little one arrived.

Unfortunately, what happened next was not in the antenatal class syllabus.

The woman suddenly grabbed his head and bit his ear with such determination that the husband instantly discovered a new level of pain he never knew existed.

“AAAAAAAH! MY EAR! MY EAR!”

The nurses rushed over, probably wondering whether they were attending to a delivery or witnessing a wrestling championship.

“Madam! Please, release the man!” one nurse pleaded.

But the woman, fully occupied with the assignment at hand, apparently wasn’t ready to negotiate.

The husband was now standing there looking like a man who had just signed a contract without reading the terms and conditions.

“Please! I have apologized for everything! Even the things I haven’t done!” he cried.

The nurses eventually managed to calm the situation, while the poor husband stood there holding his ear and questioning every decision that had brought him to that particular side of the delivery room.

The funniest part is that the husband had probably entered the hospital thinking his main responsibility was to encourage his wife, hold her hand, and say, “You can do this, my love.”

Instead, he left the labour room with a completely different assignment:

“Protect your ears at all times.”

Ladies and gentlemen, childbirth is clearly a serious business. But gentlemen, if your wife in labour says, “Bring your ear closer, I have something important to tell you…”

Please remember this story.

Listen from a safe distance.

Because in the labour ward, anything can happen and apparently even your ear can become part of the delivery process!
