In the aftermath of a historic blizzard, a viral “snowball fight” in Washington Square Park turned ugly fast. A mob—far from innocent kids—pelted responding NYPD officers with snow packed with ice, sending at least two to the hospital with head, face, and neck lacerations.
NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch called it what it was: a disgraceful criminal attack. The department released photos of four suspects (late teens to 20s, clearly not children) wanted for questioning. Police unions blasted the incident as assault and demanded prosecutions.
Enter socialist Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Instead of backing law enforcement, Mamdani downplayed the violence—repeatedly. “From the videos I’ve seen, it looks like a snowball fight,” he insisted. “A snowball fight that got out of hand… treat it accordingly.” He flatly rejected charges, joked that “the only person who deserves a snowball is me,” and refused to condemn or ban future free-for-alls.
This isn’t youthful fun. It’s targeted aggression against officers doing their jobs in brutal conditions—assault plain and simple. Yet New York’s progressive mayor prioritizes optics over officer safety, sending a dangerous message: attack cops, face no real consequences.
Classic soft-on-crime leadership from the far left. While NYPD bleeds talent and public safety erodes, Mamdani plays cute with ice projectiles.
New York deserves better. Officers deserve protection—not excuses.
