Running a wholesale shop in one of Uganda’s busy trading centers was once a source of pride and stability for Daniel. For years, his shop was known for fair prices, genuine products, and friendly customer service. Every morning, he would open his doors to a steady stream of loyal buyers — retailers, walk-in customers, and even bulk purchasers from nearby towns. The income comfortably supported his family, paid school fees, and allowed him to reinvest in growing his stock. However, over time, things began to change in a way he could not explain.
Customers who used to buy regularly started reducing their orders without clear reasons. Some stopped coming completely. New competitors opened nearby and, surprisingly, attracted heavy traffic almost immediately. Despite Daniel lowering his prices, offering promotions, and improving his display, the number of buyers entering his shop continued to decline. The once lively business environment became quiet and discouraging.
