Getting a job promotion is a dream for many employees across Kenya. You work hard, arrive early, meet deadlines, and give your best effort every day. Yet sometimes, despite all your dedication, promotions seem to pass you by. You watch colleagues rise faster while you remain in the same position year after year. It can be frustrating and deeply discouraging.
James Mwangi from Nakuru knows this experience very well. For over five years, he worked for the same logistics company. He consistently delivered strong results, helped the company win new clients, and even trained new staff members. His supervisors praised his performance, yet whenever a management position opened, someone else was chosen.
James says he began to feel invisible. Performance appraisals were positive, but opportunities never translated into advancement. He started questioning whether there was something beyond qualifications and hard work affecting his progress. The pattern of being overlooked repeatedly made him believe there was a hidden obstacle standing in his way.
