Images Circulating From The Scene Show Deep Cracks On A Pillar Of The Building

The National Construction Authority has issued a public warning following the discovery of serious structural defects in a 13-storey building under construction in Nairobi’s Westlands area.

In a statement released on Wednesday, December 17, the Authority urged residents and the general public, especially those around Peponi Road, to remain vigilant after visible cracks appeared on the walls and pillars of the high-rise development.

According to the NCA, the building is at risk of collapse after officers confirmed a structural failure at the site. Reports of the defect were first received on Monday, December 15, prompting an immediate response from the regulator.

A quality assurance team was swiftly dispatched to the location to conduct compliance and safety checks. Upon inspection, the officers confirmed the presence of cracks, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the structure.

“NCA wishes to inform the public of a structural failure that has occurred at a proposed residential development located along Peponi Road, Westlands, Nairobi,” the Authority stated.

Following the confirmation, all construction activities at the site were immediately suspended. The area has since been cordoned off to prevent access and reduce the risk of injury to workers, residents, and passersby.
