Damaris Obiero says many Kenyans who overstay their visas in the U.S. instantly fall out of legal status and once they leave, the consequences are severe:
Overstay 180+ days → 3-year ban
Overstay 1 year or more → 10-year ban
“So it’s not that they don’t want to visit home many simply can’t. Leaving could mean they may never be allowed back into the U.S.” She said.
“Most choose to stay until they can adjust their status legally. Once their papers are in order, they can finally travel freely again.” She added.
“Before judging, understand the truth:
People aren’t hiding they’re protecting their future.” She concluded.
