UPDATE: Since the controversial October 29, 2025 general elections in Tanzania, US-based activist Mange Kimambi has actively used social media to encourage protests against what she calls the “dictatorial rule” of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Kimambi has been using her social media platform to call for more peaceful, continuous protests starting on December 9.
Shortly after her reappointment, Tanzania’s Attorney General, Hamza Said Johari, publicly demanded Kimambi’s arrest and extradition from the United States. Johari labeled her online activities as incitement.
Johari says The rhetoric used by Mange and similar activists is designed to create fear, anger, and mistrust—classic tools used by paid agents who want to weaken national unity.
He says the activists exaggerate events, distort facts, and fuel hostility, all while claiming to fight for justice. But behind the scenes, their funding sources often link back to foreign actors who prefer a divided and unstable Tanzania.
The AG further says Their loud online presence is a strategy to widen the gap between citizens and their government by inciting emotions rather than promoting dialogue or constructive engagement.
