Before their release, Ugandan authorities demanded that Bob Njagi and Nicholas Oyoo refrain from engaging in any political activities against President Yoweri Museveni or his allies.
The duo provided a written assurances through intermediaries that they would not return to Uganda to campaign for opposition figures.
This is according to Njagi’s family, who said they negotiated the release with the assistance of Kenyan officials and influential figures, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, after being informed that the two would otherwise remain in custody until after Uganda’s January elections.
