Fidel Odinga family was also well represented ,his wife and children.The late eldest son of Raila, Fidel Castro Odinga, was always believed to be the one most capable of assuming his dad’s political trajectory.

According to Ida, he was named after Fidel Castro, the Cuban revolutionary who ruled the country for over five decades and transformed it into the first communist state in the Western Hemisphere.

This was because Raila reportedly greatly admired the leader, although Ida admitted to having reservations on the matter.

He was charming and ambitious and carried the family name with humility and bravery.

His sudden death on January 4, 2015, at his residence in Nairobi shocked the nation. Fidel had been partying late into the night with friends and was found unconscious the following morning.

Before he passed away,Fidel had married Veronica Wanjiru Ng’ang’a in 2007 in a customary Kikuyu ceremony. They later parted ways due to irreconcilable differences and later married Lwam Gatachew Bekele, an Eritrean national and they welcomed a son in July of 2013.

Bekele is the daughter of Timnit Embaye from Tigrinya tribe in Eritrea. She has lived in Kenya for over 35 years and has a son named Faheem Gatachew Bekele.
