Aaron Ramsdale:From Grace To Grass

Aaron Ramsdale:From Grace To Grass

When Aaron Ramsdale joined Arsenal from Sheffield United, many doubted his ability to cut it in a top team like Arsenal but he didn’t waste time to prove naysayers wrong.

When he dislodged Benrd Leno as the first choice goalie under Mikel Arteta , people started to take notice as Rambo ( fondly called) started putting up series of commanding performances for the gunners.

It was on record that he was the first choice goalie who almost won the premier league in 2022/23 season when Arsenal fell shot and saw their title hopes shattered by Man City.

It was in the following season his problems started.During an infamous interview he had with club legend Ian Wright, Ramsdale admitted he can’t keep his concentration level at 100% during matches. That comment didn’t sit well with Mikel Arteta who drafted in David Raya to compete with Ramsdale.

To be fair,Rambo was loved by many fans including pundits and many hoped his solid performances for the gunners would see him take over from Jordan Pickford as England no 1.That wish didn’t and may never come to pass.

To worsen his situation, his dad felt his son was disrespected by Arteta by making him to compete with Raya as the first choice goalie at Arsenal. After sitting out majority of the 2023/24 season where Arsenal agonizingly lost the league title again to Man City, Ramsdale decided to join Southampton to salvage his career.

He was to be relegated with Southampton but he has moved on again, this time joining Newcastle and again playing second fiddle to Nick Pope who apparently is England no 2 keeper.

Will Ramsdale rediscover his form again and finally claim England no 1 shirt he’s always wanted?
