Meet Sabella Kiprono, a remarkable woman who chose to return to KMTC even after earning a PhD from one of Kenya’s top universities

From a young age, Sabella dreamt of working in healthcare. Life’s circumstances led her into teaching and research, where she excelled even completing her PhD in Microbiology in China. But deep inside, her passion for clinical practice never went away.

In 2021, she made the bold decision to join KMTC Kakamega Campus to pursue a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences.

This was no small step balancing her role as a university lecturer, researcher, and parent, while now being a student again. Her days started before sunrise and stretched late into the night, filled with teaching, research, classes, assignments and clinical rotations.

The journey was tough, but rewarding. At Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, she trained across high-volume labs, gaining real-time experience in microbiology, hematology and diagnostics.

Her lecturers and classmates became her support system, while her family cheered her on.

Three years later, her perseverance paid off. Sabella passed her final qualifying exams, received her license from the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board and finally achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a certified Medical Laboratory Technologist.

On her graduation day, December 5, 2024, Sabella looked back with pride, from the little girl who once wished to join healthcare, to the accomplished scholar who proved that dreams are never too late to begin.❤️
