Stay calm and stay still. Venom is spread through the circulatory system so you don’t want your heart and muscles pushing that venom through the lymphatic system faster than normal
Do NOT tie anything around the affected limb. Restricting circulation can cause more damage to the bite area because it concentrates the venom in that one part of the body (especially relevant for cytotoxic bites
Remove tight clothing, jewelry and anything else that will restrict swelling.
Keep the affect limb elevated to prevent the venom from pooling in the affected limb and making the damage to the flesh worse (cytotoxic venom)
Do NOT cut or in any way attempt to clean the bite site.
Do NOT try to “suck” the venom out (it’s impossible btw, imagine pouring water on dry soil and then attempting to “suck” it out. It’s gone!)
RUSH to the nearest hospital.
Do NOT search for antivenom, the antivenom will follow the victim to where they are.
In the meantime the victim can start receiving treatment. Antivenom is not always necessary in the treatment of snakebites.
- No, those herbs DO NOT work
There’s NO homemade concoction that treats snakebite. If such a herb existed, the Government would order all households to plant it.
Applying things to the bite wound just introduces infections that can lead to amputation.
Sucking doesn’t work as the venom travels through lymph and not blood.
