RESOLUTIONS
Patriotic Front President, Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu has implored members of the Party to uphold discipline, unity and confidentiality.
Speaking when he chaired the Central Committee called to consider and adopt recommendations of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Political Alliances and Electoral Pacts.
President Lungu bemoaned the continued persecution by the State of Patriotic Front leaders, members and the Opposition in general. He stated that the Patriotic Front Secretary General, Hon. Raphael Nakacinda had just been released on court bail from incarceration while Deputy Secretary General and Kawambwa MP, Hon.Nixon Chilangwa and Pambashe Member of Parliament, Ronald Chitotela were imprisoned at Mukobeko Maximum Prison while Chairperson for Mobilisation, Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba (GBM) was imprisoned at Mwembeshi Correctional Facility.
He expressed hope that Zambians will join forces with the Patriotic Front and other social formations to dislodge the UPND Government, a political party that had brought extensive miseries to Zambia that had witnessed the worst period of suffering in the last 60 years, who are grappling with high cost of living, hunger, lack of economic opportunities, days of loadshedding, high cost of electricity and essential food stuffs.
Meanwhile the Extra-Ordinary Central Committee has adopted the Report on Political Alliances and Electoral Pacts.
The Central Committee recognized that the Patriotic Front was the largest opposition party being led by a former President of the Republic of Zambia, with members of parliament, Mayors and Council Chairpersons, and hundreds of Councilors and it enjoys the general membership in all the 10 provinces, 156 constituencies and 1,624 wards and should therefore be the anchor political party to any political alliances and electoral committees.
Some of the other salient recommendations included proposed clear rules and terms of engagement by the Patriotic Front with other partners including matters regarding shared values, leadership and the sponsorship of the presidential candidate.
The Central Committee tasked the Secretary General to share with key stakeholders including the United Kwacha Alliance and others, the new terms and conditions of engagement and position of the Patriotic Front.
The Central Committee also directed the Secretary General to continue mobilizing the party as Zambians were looking to the Patriotic Front and the Opposition to provide leadership to emancipate them from the suffering and economic collapse the country was facing.
