Kenya’s Affordable Housing Project

Kenya, like many developing countries, is seeing more people moving to cities, driven by population growth, job opportunities, and better infrastructure.

By 2050, over half of Kenya’s population is expected to live in cities, creating a huge demand for housing.

Right now, the country faces a shortage of over 2 million homes, with that number increasing by 200,000 units every year. To address this, government has made affordable housing a top priority.

Singapore’s experience offers Kenya a great model for success. When Singapore’s HDB was set up in 1960, the country was dealing with slums and a massive housing shortage.

Through smart urban planning, efficient use of resources, and government-supported homeownership programs, Singapore now enjoys a homeownership rate of over 90%.

Kenya’s Affordable Housing Project is following a similar path by promoting homeownership for a growing middle class while ensuring that lower-income citizens also have access to affordable homes.
