Iran has asked Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman to urge US President Donald Trump to pressure Israel into an immediate ceasefire, offering flexibility in nuclear negotiations in return, Reuters reported citing two Iranian and three regional sources.
Persian Gulf leaders and top diplomats have been in constant contact since the weekend, working to prevent a broader conflict between Israel and Iran, the report said.
“Iran is willing to be flexible in the nuclear talks if a ceasefire is reached,” one Iranian source was quoted as saying.
Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia all appealed to Washington to push Israel to halt strikes and that the US resume nuclear negotiations with Tehran, a Persian Gulf official told Reuters.
Iran reached out to Qatar and Oman but insisted it would not enter talks while under attack, a regional source said.
Serious negotiations, Iran told mediators, would only begin once it concludes its response to Israeli strikes.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday denied French President Emmanuel Macron’s assertion that he left the G7 summit in Canada to work on a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
“Wrong!” Trump posted on Truth Social, saying Macron “has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a cease fire. Much bigger than that.”
“Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong,” he added.
