Othaya, Nyeri β A wave of protests erupted along the Othaya-Nyeri highway following an alleged incident of police brutality involving a bodaboda rider and a passenger. Witnesses claim that a police officer forced a moving bodaboda off the road, causing it to topple over. The passenger, a woman, sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment, while the rider was arrested on the spot.
The incident has sparked outrage among bodaboda operators, who took to the streets demanding the release of their colleague. Chanting slogans and blocking sections of the highway, the riders accused law enforcement officers of excessive force and called for justice.
“We are tired of harassment by the police. Our colleague was just doing his job when he was targeted unfairly,” one protester lamented.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the matter, but tensions remain high as demonstrators insist on the immediate release of the detained rider.
This incident adds to the growing concerns about police conduct in the region, with residents and urging authorities to ensure accountability and fair treatment of all citizens.
