I never planned to start poultry keeping. It began with a single hen I was gifted as appreciation for treating a patient who recovered fully.
Instead of slaughtering it for soup, I chose to keep it. Soon, it laid eggs, brooded, and the hatching began. But just when I was ready to bring the chicks out, I found the mother hen dead.
Confused and desperate, I called a friend who is a vet. He advised me to get a feeder, drinker, starter crumbs, and anti-stress supplement. Being new, I made mistakes—like vaccinating the chicks while they were already sick. I lost 2 of them.
But 6 survived.
Those 6 chicks became the foundation of my journey and passion for poultry. From that tough start, I discovered resilience, learning, and growth. Today, I look back and realize: sometimes challenges plant the seeds of your greatest calling.
Lesson: Don’t despise small beginnings. Even from loss, something greater can be born.
These photos are not just for illustrations but a true reflection of the birth of a journey. I am not yet where I desire to be but I am not where I used to be. Ni Mungu tu.
