The Zambia Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with ongoing attacks on Ms. Chipo Mwanawasa, amidst ongoing investigations to apprehend other culprits.
In a press statement issued by Inspector General of Police Mr. Graphel Musamba, the attacks on Ms. Mwanawasa were described as bordering on criminality. Musamba assured the public that the matter is being treated with the seriousness it deserves.
“We currently have one suspect in custody, and investigations are underway to identify and arrest additional suspects,” the statement read. The police urged citizens to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, which could interfere with the investigative process.
The Inspector General also raised concerns about media propaganda allegedly initiated by an opposition party in relation to the case. He warned that any actions crossing into criminality would result in arrests and prosecutions.
Musamba reiterated the police’s commitment to upholding law and order, calling on the public to cooperate by avoiding inflammatory remarks and allowing the investigative process to take its course.
The police have asked the public to remain patient as they work towards ensuring justice for Ms. Mwanawasa.
