Kabulonga Girls Secondary School won the first prize in the School Agri-Project Competition at the Junior Farmer Agriculture Show, which was held on Friday, 11th October, at the Lusaka Showgrounds. This was after beating ten other school contenders from within Lusaka.
The school had over three projects, and among the projects presented was the piggery business. The presenter highlighted how they reared the pigs from birth until they were ready for pork chops. She also mentioned that they supplied their fully-grown pigs to Master Pork and other local companies. She further highlighted that the money gained from the sales was reinvested to grow their business for the school.
The competition and the show, in general, have generated much interest in agribusiness from the learners, who have assured the organizers of more participation in the future.
Twin Palm Secondary School won the consolation prize in second place, Libala Secondary School in third place, and Lekisha School in fourth place.
This event was organized by Innovare Ventures in partnership with the Agriculture and Commercial Show Society of Zambia (ACSZ) and sponsored by FSG Fertilizer Zambia, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), and the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ).
