
Born in the quiet hills of Borabu, Nyamira County, 57 year old Fred Okeng’o Matiang’i has walked a journey that embodies the spirit of possibility.
From a humble beginning as a primary school teacher in Kisii, he rose through hard work, grit and integrity to become one of the most respected public servants Kenya has ever seen.

Matiang’i’s track record speaks for itself. As Cabinet Secretary in ICT, Education and Interior, he consistently brought order, efficiency and transformation. He is the man who led Kenya’s historic digital migration in the face of resistance.
The man who redefined education by wiping out exam cartels, firing corrupt officials and ensuring exams were released within record time. Many credit him for laying the groundwork for the CBC curriculum which is focused on equipping students with relevant skills for the job market.

His time at the Interior Ministry revealed his unmatched ability to coordinate national government functions and deliver results. Appointed acting CS after the passing of Joseph Nkaissery, Matiang’i handled national security with firmness and focus.
As chair of the National Development Implementation Committee, he became one of the most powerful officials in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, known for his no nonsense leadership style and a deep sense of duty.
Before politics, Matiang’i was a respected scholar and consultant. With a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Kenyatta University, a Master’s in English from the University of Nairobi and a PhD in Communication and Comparative Literature, he taught at Egerton and UoN before serving as a governance expert at the Centre for International Development at Rockefeller College in New York. He also consulted for the World Bank, UNDP and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.
Many Kenyans today are calling him back, this time to serve at the highest level. Citizens across the country believe Fred Matiang’i has what it takes to lead the nation come 2027.
