“From Working As Salon Girl To Becoming A Senior Gov’t Official” Janet From Uganda Tells Her Story

My name is Janet, and I come from Entebbe, Uganda. When people see me today working as a senior government official, they often think I had it easy, but the truth is very different. My journey began in a small salon where I worked as a hairdresser. Life was difficult, and I used to wonder if I would ever make it beyond the struggles of living hand to mouth. My family was not wealthy, and education was cut short because of financial problems. All I could do was braid hair and style women to earn a living. As much as I worked hard, my dream was always bigger than the chair I sat on in that salon.

Every evening, I would look at government offices in Kampala and admire the women who worked there. They looked so confident, respected, and stable. I prayed that one day I could also hold such a position, but deep inside, I felt it was impossible. I had no connections, no powerful relatives, and no clear path. All I had was a burning desire to change my life and lift my family from poverty. It was during this season of doubt and struggle that a friend introduced me to Shaba Mangube Doctors.
